The PGA tour leaves the West Coast for Arizona. The Waste Management draws a very large crowd during the week.  Some projections believe the crowds will be near 500,000 people in attendance. Many attest to the fact that this stop on the tour may be the most party atmosphere of any on the PGA tour. The purse is $6,100,000 and the winning share is $1,080,000 One of the unique thing to look for is near the 18th hole they have a large Waste Management logo floating in the water. It is 120 feet high and is filled with 140,000 recyclable golf balls collected from courses from the state of Arizona. The 16th hole is filled with bleachers and a few water hole areas for the throng of people in attendance. This creates some interesting moments as people jeer, cheer and chant at the golfers.

The only player in the Top Ten that have committed to playing this event is Phil Mickelson.  He is currently ranked at #4 in the world. Defending champion is Hunter Mahan returns after his one stroke victory over Rickie Fowler. Bubba Watson, last week’s winner of the Farmers Open, will also be playing. Let’s review some of the players and then look at the odds and make a prediction.

Pick and Prediction

Phil Mickelson enters the event at 7/2. He played well this past week but was horrible before that. Mickelson, as the only top ranked player deserves some consideration for placing your money on him. Mickelson is a GOOD BET for this event.

Dustin Johnson comes in next at 5/1. Johnson has not shown anything that warrants any wagering thoughts. Then at 8/1 is Rickie Fowler. Last year he finished second in the Phoenix Open. If you want a VERY GOOD BET, then put some money on Fowler.

Nick Watney and Hunter Mahan are 9/1 odds to win this event. They don’t have much of a resume to appear to be tops on winning the tournament. Not a good bet for these guys. Anthony Kim has been given the odds at 11/1. He warrants a small bet.

GOOD BETS at the Waste Management Phoenix Open are Bill Haas and Bubba Watson both at 12/1 odds. Watson comes in as the winner in last week PGA tournament.  My darkhorse is Jhonattan Vegas at 16/1. Vegas has caught fire and it is best to ride him until he slumps. He is BEST BET for Phoenix Open.
