Top 5 Sleeper Picks for the PGA Players Championships
One of the 4 major championships will take place this weekend as the PGA Championship gets rolling. This week – the course is Quail Hollow in Charlotte North Carolina. The gorgeous par 72 course is more than 7,400 yards long. Jason Day holds the record for the PGA Championship, as he went -20 in 2015. David Toms is the aggregate record holder back in 2001 when he shot a 265. Let’s take a look at the Top 5 Sleeper Picks for the PGA Players Championships.
Justin Thomas 40/1
Justin Thomas is ranked 5th on the most recent PGA Money List. Thomas has been in the Top 10 7 times in 20 events this season. Thomas in his most recent event finished 28th at the Bridgestone. That came after three straight events in which he missed the cut. Thomas has the flare for dramatics, and remember his 9th place finish at the US Open. Justin Thomas is listed at 40/1.
Phil Mickelson 50/1
Lefty Phil Mickelson is 47 years old, so many think his time could be running out to take away another major tournament. Mickelson has been pretty poor as of late, but made a pretty strong charge on the final day of the Bridgestone. His most recent success was 9th place at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. If there is a guy that has been around a major tournament before – it’s Phil Mickelson.
Charley Hoffman 50/1
Charley Hoffman is 11th in the world on the PGA rankings. That’s pretty solid for a guy that many have not heard of. Hoffman is 40 year olds, and played his college golf at UNLV. In 26 events, Hoffman has made the cut 18 times, and finished in the Top 10 6 times. Hoffman’s most recent event was third at the Bridgestone, after finishing 2nd at the Canadian Open. Hoffman at 50/1 is a great bet.
Xander Schauffele 100/1
Schauffele is looking for his 4th Top 10 finish of his career. In Majors, Schauffele has made the cut both times, and finished in the Top 10 once. The guy has made nearly $3M in his golf seasons. His most recent finish was 13th at the Bridgestone, after shooting a 68 on the final day. Schauffele recently won the Greenbrier Classic. He is playing his best golf right now. Look for him with good odds at 100/1.
Si Woo Kim 150/1
The 22 year old from South Korea is in the Top 25 after a win and 2 Top 10 this season. The guy is a hit or miss selection with just 11 made cuts in 26 events. He missed the cut three times straight times in a row, before finishing 50th at the Bridgestone Invitational. He is a long shot, but if he gets going, there isn’t a hotter golfer often times.
