The Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels will open up a three game series on Tuesday in the city of Angels. Both teams are looking to gain some ground on their divisional leaders, as the final six weeks of the season begins. Chicago is in third place in the American League Central; five games behind the Detroit Tigers. The Angels have moved to within four games of the Texas Rangers in the American League West, and look to keep making a charge. The White Sox will send veteran left hander Mark Buerhle to the mound, while the Angels are sending Ervin Santana, who has picked up a n0-hitter already this season.
Los Angeles Angels (-146)
The Angels have won four in a row, including the final game of the series against Texas. Los Angeles is led in offense by Howie Kendrick, who is batting .291 on the season. Youngster Mark Trumbo has been a pleasant surprise for the Angels, as he has blasted 23 homeruns, and drove in 69 runs. The offense as a while has been very inconsistent for the Angels, as they are 20th in the league with 502 runs. The starting pitching for the Angels has carried the team, as they rank third in the league with 79 quality starts. The starting pitcher, Santana comes into the game with a 9-9 record and 3.12 earned run average. Santana is coming off a loss to the Texas Rangers on August 17th, despite pitching 7.2 innings.
Chicago White Sox (+136)
The road team in this one is the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox are better on the road than they are at home. Chicago holds a 34-27 record when playing away from US Celluar Field. The White Sox are coming off a 10-0 blanking of the Rangers on Sunday behind a solid outing by John Danks. The White Sox are batting .254 as a team, which is led by Paul Konerko, and his .317 average along with 28 homeruns, and 85 runs batted in. Chicago will send veteran left hander Mark Buerhle to the mound. Buerhle is 10-6 on the season, and has a 3.14 earned run average. The veteran left hander is coming off a loss to the Indians, which snapped a four game winning streak.
Both of these teams feel they have a chance to get to the postseason. Both teams need to find ways to win games, and win alot in a row. The pitching match-up for this game is pretty good. Both have showed signs of being very good at times. Like most teams, the offenses for both the Angels and the White Sox have been inconsistent. In this game, it is going to come down to the veteran presence of Mark Buerhle. We feel Buerhle will be sharp and good enough to pick up the win for Chicago. We are betting the Chicago White Sox to beat the Los Angeles Angels in the first of a three game series on Tuesday.
