St. Louis Cardinals News and Betting Tips for Thursday, March 31, 2011

The St. Louis Cardinals are always among the top of the NL Central.  2011 should be no different but they are going to have to do it without their ace starting pitcher – Adam Wainwright.  ”Waino” suffered an injury during the preseason which forced him to have Tommy John surgery and miss the entire 2011 season.  This was quite a hit to the Cardinal fans and the entire Cardinal organization in general.  They still have a solid core with Albert Pujols, Matt Holiday and Chris Carpenter leading the way.  The addition of Lance Berkman will surely be a good thing for the club as well.  Carpenter takes the mound on opening day and is the one pitcher who is still lights out for the Redbirds.  Another thing on all Cardinal fans minds is the Albert Pujols contract situation.  Will he be a Redbird next year?  Nobody knows.  But surely Albert will turn in another stellar MVP type season.

San Diego Padres News and Betting Tips for Thursday, March 31, 2011

The San Diego Padres are suffering injuries as well.  Projected opening day starter Mat Latos starts the season on the 15 day DL which means Tim Stauffer gets the nod on Thursday.  Stauffer started just 7 games last year and finished with a 6-5 record but had a great 1.85 ERA.  The Padres have high expectations of returning to the top of the NL West in 2011.  The reigning World Series Champs – San Francisco Giants and the LA Dodgers are two teams in their way.  A key part of their team is former Cardinal, Ryan Ludwick.  Ludwick returns to St. Louis in his first full season as a Padre player.  He will surely be looking to take some licks at starter Chris Carpenter.
