The Thunder and its coaching staff made a calculated risk with the play of Eric Maynor instead of Russell Westbrook. He was benched and James Harden took over the offensive part of the game. Harden scored 23 points in the game with 10 of them coming in the final period. Other regulars had their roles and Thabo Sefoloshia , Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins combined for 14 points in the game. Maynor chipped in with 19 points for the game. Westbrook and Durant combined for 42 points. had to work for his 24 points in Game 2, getting to the free-throw line just three times while missing all five of his 3-point attempts.

The defense was there when the regulars were on the floor but the reserves took over. The Mavericks were led with 29 points by Dirk Nowitzki  which is 19 less than Game 1. He got those points by shooting 10 for 17 from the field and canned 9 free throws on 10 attempts. He was alone for the most part in scoring as no other regular got more than 15 points. The rest of the team combined their shooting to hit 8 shots in 28 field goal attempts. Shawn Marion was aggressive on the boards by hauling down six offensive rebounds but shot just 4 of 13 from the field.
