The Green Bay Packers will play their first road game of the 2011 season on Sunday at the Carolina Panthers. Green Bay, who won the Super Bowl in February of 2011 won their opening game on Thursday night in thrilling fashion over the New Orleans Saints. The Packers are the favorite s to win the NFC North, and many people pick to win the Super Bowl again. Carolina comes into the game with a rookie quarterback, and a 0-1 record. The Panthers did not have enough to down the Arizona Cardinals in week one, despite 400+ passing yards from rookie quarterback Cam Newton. This will be the first home game for first year head coach Ron Rivera.
Carolina Panthers (+10)
The Carolina Panthers had a horrible season in 2010. The pre-season was a little better, and despite the loss the opener was a step in the right direction for the Panthers. Cam Newton showed he can play with the big boys with his monster game. In week two, the Panthers hope the once deadly combination of Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams will get going. Last week, the two running backs combined for just 56 yards. The Panthers starting linebacker Jon Beason will not play in this game, with yet another injury. The Panthers play in the NFC South, where all four teams lost their opening game of the season.
Green Bay Packers (-10)
The Green Bay Packers have one of the best passing attacks in all of the National Football League. Aaron Rodgers has turned into an elite quarterback, and has a ton of athletic targets. His top target has been Greg Jennings. In the week one win, Jennings caught 7 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. Jordy Nelson also got into the action with a touchdown reception in the win. Randall Cobb, the former Kentucky Wildcats start returned a kick for a touchdown for his first career touchdown. The Packers defense hopes to improve upon their passing defense. New Orleans was able to torch the Packers secondary for 396 yards in the opener. Green Bay is playing their first of two straight on the road. Next week, the Packers will take on the Bears at Soldier Field.
The Green Bay Packers come into this game as 10 point favorite. While the Packers are rolling right now, this game scares us a little bit. We are not sure how good or bad the Panthers are quite yet. Their week one loss on the road was a bit impressive, just because many felt they would not be competitive. Look for the Panthers to play well at home. Now, we all now Green Bay is really good, and can score at well. When it comes right down to it, we expect the Green Bay Packers to win this game, but our final bet is the Carolina Panthers +10 over the Green Bay Packers. Carolina will keep this game close.
