Boston Bruins (+178) at Vancouver Canucks (-193)
The Pick: Canucks -193
Canucks vs. Bruins Betting Overview
Vancouver has had some time to think about their quest for the Stanley Cup title for over a week after they dispensed the San Jose Sharks in five games. Boston took all seven games to win their series against Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference finals. Let’s preview each team and then make our free pick for your bet.
Vancouver Canucks News and Betting Tips for Wednesday, June 01, 2011
Vancouver will have everyone available for the series as Manny Malhortra returns as two surgeries to his eye. He is a face-off specialist that is needed to help them in an area of need. The Canucks simply pressed the Sharks to the point of exhaustion. This is the first time they have returned to the finals since 1994. Defending Hart Trophy winner Henrik Sedin leads the Canucks with 19 assists and 21 points, and has been especially dangerous on the power-play with 10 man-advantage points. Also, Vancouver enjoyed a decided edge in power-play effectiveness, converting on 28.3 percent of its man-advantage opportunities in the playoffs.
Boston Bruins News and Betting Tips for Wednesday, June 01, 2011
Boston is not the favored team going into this series and that is the same place they have been all the way through each level of the Western Conference playoffs. Boston faces a team that led the league with most goals scored and fewest goals against. The Bruins are led by Davis Krejci and Nathan Horton who have combined for 17 points in the postseason. The goaltender, Tim Thomas has been very hot and at times was very sloppy so the Bruins aren’t sure which one will show up for the important series. Michael Ryder has just five goals so far in the postseason, and will need to step up to help Boston counter a relentless Vancouver attack. Boston has scored on just 8.2 percent of its power plays. The teams are more evenly matched on the penalty kill, with the Canucks at 80.6 percent and the Bruins at 79.4%.
Our Bruins vs. Canucks Pick and Predictions
These two teams met just once in the regular season. Milan Lucic scored the game winner with 4:38 remaining and Tim Thomas made 27 saves as the Bruins earned a 3-1 home victory on Feb. 26. Look for Boston to have trouble containing the scoring of the Canucks in this series. The Sedin twins have combined for 18 points in the last playoffs and will be a ton to handle. Look for Roberto Luongo, who has had over 30 playoff wins in his career to come up big and take control of this series. Our pick is Vancouver -194 to win.
Our pick: Canucks -194
