The Men’s Wimbledon Tennis Tournament gets underway this week and as much as people are wanting to grab a longshot to win this event, it is difficult to stray away from the Fab Four. Andy Murray, Rafael NAdal, Novak Dkokovic and Roger Federer are so much better than the rest of the field it is difficult to imagine another player winning at Wimbledon. They have combined to win 12 of the 35 events on the ATP tennis tour and in the other events they most likely never entered it. Since 2004 they have combined to win every major Grand Slam event except for one.
With all of the said, there is always time for someone to step up and be a shining beacon for the next generation of tennis professionals. Let’s preview the pretenders and contenders with the odds as of this writing. Be sure to check them several times as they are likely to change when you are ready to place your bet.
Rafael Nadal enters as a 2/1 odds to win and has been known to dominant Roland Garros clay with six winners in the 7 times he has entered play. He has three titles this year, including the French earlier this month and additional titles at Barcelona and Monte Carlo, all on clay. If he wins it would be his 11th major title.
Also at 2/1 is Roger Federer with 6 Wimbledon titles to his name. Federer has lost to NAdal 17 times out of 25 attempts. They had a close match a few weeks ago at the French Open but Nadal made a comeback to take the set and match. Federer’s section of the draw isn’t too challenging. Barring upsets he will face either David Ferrer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarters, two winnable matches
Next on the odds chart is Novak Djokovic with 11/4 odds to win and past winner of the Australian Open to his credit. He was on fire early in the season by winning 41 straight matches. He is younger than Nadal and Federer but hasn’t been able to show any consistency in beating the Top Two.
Andy Murray is considered the weakest of the Fab Four but certainly miles ahead of the rest of the pack. He is 22-8 with one win this year and that occurred last week in London on a grass surface. He will be a winner someday but for now will be a person that just plays very well. The odds for him winning Wimbledon come in at 5/1 odds.
If anyone is cracking the Top Four it very likely could be Andy Roddick with 33/1 odds to win. He is 19-7 this season and has won some of the lesser tournaments along the way. He has battled some injuries and needs to right himself before he can be a winner at the top level of the Grand Slam events.
Other in the fieldand their odds are: Del Potro (20/1), Tsonga (33/1), Berdych (33/1), Isner (50/1), Fish (80/1), Richard Gasquet (80/1), David Nalbandian (125/1), David Ferrer (150/1), Monfils (150/1), Jurgen Melzer (150/1), Lleyton Hewitt (150/1), Davydenko (150/1), Baghdatis (200/1), Wawrinka (200/1), and Mahut 250/1.
With our free pick it is hard to deviate from the field and we are betting on Rafael Nadal to win.
If you really need a longshot it would be Robin Soderling at 28/1.
