It’s Wimbledon time and this year the womens event is open for many different entries with Kim Clijsters withdrawing before the tourney even started. The Number 1 player in the world is Caroline Wozniacki and she has never won a major event. The Williams sisters are both returning to tennis action for varying reasons. This event will begin Monday, June 20th. Let’s preview some of the hopeful for this event and check their odds before we make a pick or two to win Wimbledon. Also, check the odds from time to time as they change several times a day before it begins.
Serena Williams is +350 and has not played for a year as she sat out due to a foot injury. She had a warm-up at Eastbourne and played well but eventually lost to Vera Zvonareva. Serena has the best odds but may be too rusty to lift the cup in the winners’ circle.
Maria Sharapova is the player many are pinning their hopes on at +400 to ein. She played well at the French Open before losing to the eventual champion and has done well on grass courts on many occasions. Her chance to win shows how weak the field is for this event.
The other Williams sister, Venus, has won this event five times and has gotten second three times. She has been out for since the Australian Open and appears ahead of her sister in development but gotten ousted at Eastbourne rather easily.
Li Na has been the most impressive as she is 26-8 for the season and is 13-1 in Slam events. She is a grass player and has received the quarterfinals two times. She is an underdog to win this event.
Another player that ranks in the underdog status is Daniela Hantuchova as she has beaten all the biggest players in recent times. She defeated Wozniacki at Roland Garros, Li Na at Eastbourne and Serna Williams and appears primed to win the whole thing.
Andre Petkovic has reached the final in Strasburg and the final eight of the French Open and has the power to play well on the grass at Wimbledon.
This field for the Womens Wimbledon got very weak when Kim Clijsters withdrew from the event and now no one jumps out to win. Wozniacki has the tools, Li Na has the ability, and Sharapova probably can be the most ready to win.
Our Pick is the underdog Daniela Hantuchova to stun the world and win Wimbledon.
