Djokovic vs. Murray
The 2011 Australian Open will have a new look this year. Neither Nadal nor Federer will be in the final match. Novak Djokovic has lost his last three meetings against Andy Murray. Murray has won every set since 2008 against the Serbian born Djokovic. Neither player came through the sets this week looking strong. They both had enough to get them to victory.
Djokovic has won in Melbourne in the past. But he struggled against Dolgopolov and Ferrer to gain access to the finals. In December, he had helped win the Davis Cup and now is brimming with confidence. Murray, ranked #7 in the world rankings, has the uncanny ability to place the ball in the spots he wants. He is not a powerful server and that will be a detriment in attacking Djokovic. Also, Murray has a rap as one that can’t win the big one. One huge advantage is the Djokovic will have one extra days’ rest over Murray. Our prediction is to see #3 ranked player in the world, Novak Djokovic to win this event. Odds have Djokovic -2 to win.
Our pick: Djokovic at -2 to win in five sets
Clijsters vs. Li Na
The Rod Laver Arena will be in a frenzy to watch these two square off for the championship of the 2011 Australian Open. This event is in Melbourne, Australia and it is a hard surface court. The last time the met each other in competition was in the 2011 WTA Sydney. In that match Li Na defeated Clijsters. However, in head-to-head competition, Clijsters holds a three wins to two on hard surface courts.
Kim Clijsters, from Belgium, has ravished each of her opponents on the way to this championship. She dispatched #2 Vera Zvonareva rather easily in the semifinals. In fact, Clijsters has not lost a single set in the tournament. She is the defending champion of the US Open. Li Na sailed through her opponents rather easily also. Her only set loss came in her semifinals match to the #1 player, Carolyn Wozniacki. Li Na would be the first player from China to win a major tennis event. This should be a barn burner of a match. Odds have Li Na at +4. She has been very strong in the Australian Open. Our prediction is for the #11 player in the world rankings, Li Na, to win.
Our pick: Li Na in five sets at +4
