The 2017 World Series has arrived. We have two of the best teams in the league getting together. The Astros won the American League West with 101 wins, and 21 games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels. The Astros went 48-33 at home, and 53-28 when they were on the road. Houston had the third best run differential in all of the American League, as they scored just shy of 900 runs, and allowed 700. Houston has won 7 out of 11 postseason games, with a divisional series win in 4 games over the Red Sox, and then they took down the Yankees in 7 games.
The Los Angeles Dodgers finished with the best record in all of Major League Baseball. The Dodgers came away with 104 wins. The Dodgers whipped the National League West, 11 games over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Los Angeles won 57 out of 81 games at home, and went 47034 on the road. The Dodgers allowed a National League fewest 580 runs during the season, which was the best run differential in the NL at +190. Los Angeles swept the Arizona Diamondbacks in 3 games, and then beat the Cubs 4 out of 5 to get to the World Series.
Pitching Favors Dodgers
When you want to start looking at the betting odds for the 2017 World Series, oddsmakers have the Dodgers as the favorites, but not by much. The Houston Astros are the underdogs at +120, while the Los Angeles Dodgers come in at -140. The Dodgers come in as the favorite in Game 1 with their lefthander Clayton Kershaw on the mound. Los Angeles is listed at -164 to win Game 1, with a total of 7.
The rest of the starting pitcher matchups include Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros against Rich Hill of the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2. Verlander comes into the World Series as the American League Championship Series MVP. Game 3 sees Yu Darvish for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as he will take on Lance McCullers Jr. Game 4 pits Alex Wood for Los Angeles and Charlie Morton for the Astros. It’s expected that Game 5 will be Kershaw and Keuchel, Game 6 features Verlander and Hill, while 7 would pit Darvish against McCullers Jr.
Expert Pick and Prediction
We have to go with the Los Angeles Dodgers in this series. It’s hard to picture a series where the Astros get to Clayton Kershaw. Even if they knock Kershaw out early like the Cubs were able to do – the Dodgers bullpen has been fantastic. The Los Angeles offense should be able to get to the Houston bullpen. The Dodgers are tough to beat in Los Angeles, and the Astros have been pretty poor on the road. Look for Los Angeles to go to Houston up 2-0.
The Astros will right the ship in Game 3, as they have had some success against Yu Darvish. But, when the Dodgers win Game 4 in Houston, that sets the scene for Clayton Kershaw to grab his second win in the series, and come away with World Series MVP honors. Take the Los Angeles Dodgers -140 to win the World Series.
