In what should be an excellent baseball game, the New York Yankees will host the Milwaukee Brewers in the first of a three game set at Yankee Stadium. Both teams come into the game in first place, as New York leads the American League East by 1/2 game over Boston, and Milwaukee is three games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central.
The Yankees come into the game with Freddie Garcia as their starting pitcher. Garcia is 6-6 on the season with an earned run average of 3.30. In his career against the Brewers, Garcia has lost both his starts, pitching 13.1 innings and allowing 15 hits. The Yankees offense has carried the team most of the season behind the big four of Robinson Cano, Mark Teixieria, Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson. Texieria leads the way with 23 homeruns, while Rodriguez is leading the team with a .300 batting average. New York is coming off a win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. On the season, New York has won 8 of 12 games against teams from the National League.
The Brewers come into the game fresh off a three game sweep of their American League rival, the Minnesota Twins. After they leave New York, Milwaukee will head to Minnesota for a re-match. The Brewers are at their high water mark ; nine games over .500, and also three games ahead in the division. Milwaukee has been anchored by Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder offensively. Braun is batting .308, while Fielder has 21 homeruns and 68 runs batted in. The Brewers will send former Kansas City star Zack Greinke to the mound. Greinke is 7 starts in his career agains the Yankees holds a 2-3 record. On the season, the right hander has made 10 starts, winning 7 of them. In his last outing Greinke went 7 innings, beating the Tampa Bay Rays.
This should be an excellent game between two first place teams. This is what interleague is about, having two teams battle it out. Greinke has made seven career starts against the Yankees, without alot of success. Garcia has struggled against the Brewers, but this looks like a time when you can throw all the stats out the window. The Yankees offense is too tough to slow down consistently. Greinke will pitch a few good innings, but run into some troubles. Look for New York to break this game open in the middle innings and come away with a win.
Our pick: New York Yankees -130 over Milwaukee Brewers
