Friday, May 7: Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals

Don’t look now but the St. Louis Cardinals are one of the hottest teams in baseball, and they host the Colorado Rockies this weekend. This is also the first matchup for Nolan Arenado against the team that traded him away.

Jack Flaherty starts for the Cardinals in the series opener, and he is 5-0 with a 3.41 earned run average to begin the year. He will be opposed by Austin Gomber who was a part of that trade that send Arenado to the Cardinals.

Along with having an edge in the starting pitching matchup, the Cardinals should also have a big advantage when it comes to offense. Colorado has always struggled to score runs away from Coors Field, and the Cardinals have some bats that are heating up.

It won’t take a ton of run support for Flaherty to pick up his sixth win of the season, and that is exactly what will happen on Friday.

Saturday, May 8: Minnesota Twins at Detroit Tigers

American League Central Division rivals collide this weekend in Detroit as the Tigers host the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota should be the betting favorites in all three games of the series, but the biggest advantage will come on Saturday.

Jose Berrios (3-2, 3.58 ERA) starts for the Twins in this game, and he will be opposed by Jose Urena (1-4, 3.53 ERA) for the Tigers. Berrios has the potential to be one of the best in the American League, and he could shut down a struggling Tigers lineup.

Both the Twins and Tigers are looking to rebound after a slow start to the season, but it is Minnesota that actually has the potential to do so. The Twins have some thunder in that lineup, and that could be a great day for this offense.

Bet the Twins over the Tigers on Saturday.

Sunday, May 9:

Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

After sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series, the Cubs will host the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend. These teams are no strangers this season, and Pittsburgh has actually played the Cubs well.

The Cubs have struggled to get outs from their starting rotation this season, but that wasn’t the case against the Dodgers. On Sunday, Kyle Hendricks will start for the Cubs and he just went the distance (7 innings) against the defending World Series champions.

Pittsburgh is going to be in for another long season, and they shouldn’t pose much of a threat to the Cubs. This Chicago offense is starting to come around, and this should be a comfortable win for the Cubs on Sunday.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels

It’s a battle for Los Angeles this weekend as the Angeles host the Dodgers. Both teams have actually struggled to begin the 2021 season, but there will be plenty of star power on the field all weekend long.

The best bet to make on this series takes place on Sunday as Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers opposes Jose Quintana of the Angels. Both offenses have the ability to break out at any time, but the Angels are going to struggle on Sunday.

Kershaw lasted just one inning in his previous start against the Cubs, and he will be out for revenge on Sunday. That spells bad news for the Angels, and the Dodgers offense won’t have to do much to win this game.
