The final two months of the Major League Baseball season are underway, and playoff races are heating up in both leagues. There are key series all across the Majors this weekend, with the Yankees and Red Sox squaring off this weekend in Boston. Let’s take a look at some of the top MLB games to bet on this weekend.
Friday, August 3: Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals
The Pirates and Cardinals will meet this week in Pittsburgh. Both teams are trying to stay in the playoff race in the National League, and this will be a huge series. On Friday night, Chris Archer will be making his debut for the Pirates after being traded over from Tampa Bay. The hard-throwing righty will take over the role as ace on the Pittsburgh staff. The Cardinals will counter with John Gant, who has been up and down this season. The Pirates have been one of the hottest teams in baseball and will continue this trend with a win. Bet the Pirates over the Cardinals in Chris Archer’s debut on Friday.
Friday, August 3: Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays
The surprising Seattle Mariners will host the struggling Toronto Blue Jays this weekend. The Blue Jays were busy prior to the trade deadline, trading proven veterans for Minor-League prospects. Seattle still holds the second Wild Card spot in the American League, but are in a very tight battle. Marco Gonzales (12-5, 3.37 ERA) will make the start for the Mariners on Friday night. The Blue Jays will be just trying to get through the final two months of the season before preparing for a rebuild in 2019. The Mariners are the better team, and should earn the victory on Friday night behind Gonzales. Bet the Seattle Mariners to win this game.
Saturday, August 4: Cleveland Indians vs. Los Angeles Angels
Corey Kluber will make the start for the first-place Indians on Saturday against a mediocre Angels team. Obviously, getting Mike Trout out will be key for Kluber in this start, but the Angels have struggled to score runs outside of Trout. The Indians will spend the next two months preparing for the postseason, and the Cleveland offense is starting to score a ton of runs. The Angels will send Felix Pena (1-2, 5.23 ERA) to the mound to oppose Kluber, and he should struggle against the veteran Indians lineup. Bet Kluber, and the Indians, to defeat the Angels on Saturday.
Sunday, August 5: Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins
National League East-leading Philadelphia will take on the Miami Marlins this weekend. The Phillies feature one of the best starting rotations in baseball, and their ace Aaron Nola will make the start on Sunday. Nola is 12-3 with a 2.35 earned run average this season and is on the short list of NL Cy Young contenders. The Marlins are one of the worst road teams in baseball, and they won’t have much luck in this game. Bet the Phillies over the Marlins on Sunday.
Sunday, August 5: Chicago Cubs vs. San Diego Padres
The Cubs and Padres will wrap up a four-game series on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Veteran Jon Lester (12-4, 3.22 ERA) will start for the Cubs on Sunday, and he should have little trouble with a weak Padres lineup. Lester beat the Padres on July 15 and should do the same on Sunday afternoon. The Padres will counter with lefty Clayton Richard, who has been inconsistent in 2018. The Cubs offense is heating up and will stay hot against Richard. Bet the Chicago Cubs over the Padres on Sunday afternoon.
