This week the Nascar Sprint Cup Series heads to the Talladega Superspeedway for the Aaron’s 499. Last season David Ragan won the fall race at Talladega and Jamie McMurray won the spring race. An interesting stat to keep an eye on is that a Chevrolet has won 23 of the last 30 races at Talladega.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. (10-1 )
This is one of Dale Earnhardt Jr’s best tracks. Earnhardt has won here 5 times in his 28 starts but hasn’t won here since 2004. Earnhardt also has 10 top 5’s and 14 top 10 finishes to go along with his 5 wins at Talladega. Earnhardt is currently sitting in 5th place overall in the standings with a win coming in the Daytona 500 the only other race at a superspeedway so far this season. Earnhardt was slow in the 1st practice session having just the 42nd fastest time but turned it around in the final practice where he had the 9th fastest time. Dale Jr. will be starting the race in the 30th position but qualifying really don’t mean shit in the restrictor plate races.
Dale Earnhardt Stats
Earnhardt has 5 wins at Talladega.
Earnhardt has lead 775 laps at Talladega.
Earnhardt has 5 top 5 finishes this season.
Matt Kenseth (12-1 )
Matt Kenseth is second in the point standings so far this season with three top 5’s and seven top 10 finishes in nine races. Matt has a decent record at Talladega, he has one win and nine top 10 finishes in 28 races. Kenseth hasn’t showed much in the way of having a fast car so far this week with just the 20th and 29th fastest times in practice plus a 21st place qualifying position. All that being said I have a feeling Matt will stick around and have a chance to win it in the end.
Matt Kenesth Stats
Kenseth is 2nd in the points standings.
Kenseth has lead 468 laps at Talladega.
Brad Keselowski (12-1 )
Brad has won twice at the Talladega Superspeedway winning the 2012 and 2009 Aaron’s 499. In Brads 10 starts at Talladega he has two wins three tops 5’s and six top 10 finishes. So far this season Keselowski has one win and four top 5 finishes which is good for 7th place in the standings. Keselowski is another driver who really hasn’t showed us much in practice or qualifying but again talented drivers find a way to hang around and be near the top come the end of the race.
Brad Keselowski Stats
Keselowski has 2 wins at Talladega.
Keselowski has finished in the top 10 in 6 of his 10 starts at Talladega.
Keselowski has 4 top 5 finishes this season.
