It’s time for the start of the National Basketball Association. The season opener is on Tuesday, and one of the big games features two favorites out of the Eastern Conference. The Cleveland Cavaliers come into the season as the favorites to not only win the Eastern Conference, but are the pick to win the NBA title. For Chicago, they are the second pick out of the Eastern Conference. The Bulls are +615 to win the Eastern Conference and +1730 to win the NBA Title.
A season ago, these two teams played in the second round of the postseason, with the Cavaliers finishing the Bulls season. The Cavaliers finished with a 53-29 record, while the Bulls went 50-32. Cleveland struggled on the road, winning just 22 of 41, while Chicago at the United Center won 27 of 41. The Bulls are the favorite in this game, and the moneyline is Chicago -140 with Cleveland at +120. Here is the opening night pick for the NBA between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls.
Betting on the Bulls is the Smart Choice Here
The Chicago Bulls are the slight favorite in this game, and we feel that is the way this bet should be going. The Bulls, while not completely healthy, and more healthy than the Cavaliers. Derrick Rose appears to be back and ready, and has a great nucleus around him. Head coach Fred Hoiberg looks to push the offense more this season, with Rose playing alongside Jimmy Butler, Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah.
For Cleveland, while they got Tristan Thompson into their front court for years, he had too many distractions during training camp. The Cavaliers had a question mark coming into the week with their star LeBron James. He is still experiencing some pain in his lower back, and was questionable to play in this game. Look for LeBron to play, but missing time is not a good sign early in the season. The Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving is out indefinitely with a knee injury, so the Cavaliers may get off to a slow start this season. Iman Shumpert is also out for Cleveland with a wrist injury. If Chicago is going to win the Central Division, they will want to take advantage of these opportunities early in the season.
The Cavaliers are the defending Eastern Conference Champions for a reason, but in this one, they just are not healthy enough to tackle the Bulls. Taking the Chicago Bulls over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the season opener is the way to go here. The spread bet to make here is the Chicago Bulls -2.5 over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Taking the Over Could be a Good Bet
The Cleveland Cavaliers may not be healthy, but the Chicago Bulls are going to want to put points on the board. Look at Fred Hoiberg’s head coaching track record, and his teams are going to want to push the basketball up the floor. With an injured Cleveland team, look for the Bulls to take advantage of their lack of depth early in the season. J.R. Smith still plays for Cleveland, so plenty of shots will be taken. The Bulls will shed their talk of being such a great defensive team early.
Look for both teams to get to 100 points in this game. The stats show that Cleveland has done well keeping games UNDER the spread in Chicago as of late, but look for the start of the season to change that. Betting the OVER 191.5 in this game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls seems to be a good bet.
