College Football Playoff Doubleheader Betting Picks

The College Football Playoff semifinal games take place on New Years Day, and the four best teams in the country are set to square off. These four teams are all familiar with playing on the biggest stage, leading to some great action.

Each semifinal game winner will advance to the College Football Playoff Championship Game set for January 11. Here is a quick betting preview and pick for each of the two semifinal games on Friday:

Rose Bowl Game: (1) Alabama Crimson Tide (-20.5) vs. (4) Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Rose Bowl Game is the first of two semifinal games, but this time it won’t be played in Pasadena, California. AT&T Stadium will be the host as it will allow fans to be in attendance to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Alabama is a perfect 11-0 this season, and they are champions of the SEC. The Crimson Tide have been blowing teams out all season long, and they also have a pair of Heisman Trophy finalists on their roster.

Quarterback Mac Jones has thrown for 3,739 yards and 32 touchdowns, and he has been incredibly accurate as well. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith has racked up over 1,500 receiving yards and has 19 total touchdowns on the season.

Notre Dame will look to counter with a rushing attack that is led by running back Kyren Williams. Williams leads the team with over 1,000 rushing yards, and the Fighting Irish are averaging more than 215 rushing yards per game.

The Fighting Irish have also been a great defensive team this season, except in the ACC Championship Game. Giving up 34 points to Clemson exposed some weaknesses on that side of the ball, and those will need to be fixed before this game.

Alabama will give up some points, and that could keep this game interesting for a while. Notre Dame’s problem is that the Crimson Tide will just continue to score, and the Fighting Irish simply can’t keep up.

Bet on the Alabama Crimson Tide to cover the massive spread and win this game by at least three touchdowns.

All-State Sugar Bowl: (2) Clemson Tigers (-7.5) vs. (3) Ohio State Buckeyes

The second semifinal game between the Clemson Tigers and the Ohio State Buckeyes has a much smaller spread, and it is expected to be a much better game. These two teams have a history of meeting up in the semifinals, and the game last year was a terrific battle that went down to the wire.

Clemson enters this game with a 10-1 record, and they won the ACC Championship earlier this season. Ohio State is just 6-0 on the season, but they were champions of the Big Ten Conference.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence leads the way for the Clemson Tigers, and he is a Heisman Trophy finalist this season. Lawrence has thrown for 2,753 yards and 22 touchdowns, and he was terrific in the win over Notre Dame.

The Clemson defense has also been great this season, holding the Fighting Irish to just 10 points in the ACC Championship Game. The Tigers won’t be afraid to blitz the Buckeyes and look to force some turnovers.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields averaged three touchdown passes per game in the regular season, and the Buckeyes can also run the football. This team averaged 42.5 points per game, and they will look to speed up the tempo in this game.

The Buckeyes have faced Lawrence in the past, and that could give them a good idea of what to expect. Ohio State knows that they can’t afford to get into a shootout with Clemson.

This should be a terrific game, but ultimately Clemson is the more complete team. Bet on the Clemson Tigers -7.5 over the Ohio State Buckeyes.
