The 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship is finally here, and it’s gearing up to be one for the books. LSU and Clemson will fight to be crowned college football’s national champion on Monday. Kickoff is set for 8 pm ET. LSU is a 5.5-point favorite in this matchup.
Burrow Has Been Nearly Perfect
LSU has undoubtedly been one of the most exciting teams to watch this year in college football. Averaging 564.2 yards of total offense per game, LSU has been nothing short of unstoppable this year.
Joe Burrow has been nearly perfect this year, throwing 55 touchdowns and only six interceptions. The Heisman Trophy winner averages 354 passing yards per game, with an adjusted completion percentage of 82.5.
Some are saying he is the most efficient college quarterback ever, and for good reason.
Coach Ed Orgeron is to thank for LSU’s success. Orgeron was the sixth most likely coach to be fired first this year at 14-1 odds. He’s now proven he can coach and compete against some of the best in all of college football.
Outside of a very close 23-20 win vs. Auburn in October, LSU has blown out practically everybody.
What the Tigers lack on defense, they make up for on offense. LSU’s defense has not been as great as it has been in years past, allowing an average of 339.9 yards per game.
That’s very respectable defensively, just not as dominant as an LSU defense typically is year in and year out. The Tigers currently rank 29th in total defense.

Dabo Looks To Repeat
The reigning national champions are underdogs in this contest. Dabo Sweeney looks to lead his team to a second consecutive national championship title.
Clemson has blown the doors off every opponent it has faced this season, despite a near loss to North Carolina in September.
Trevor Lawrence is responsible for Clemson’s offensive dominance this year, throwing 38 touchdowns and only three interceptions. With 56 receptions on the year, Tee Higgins has been one of Lawrence’s favorite targets. Higgins has raked in an impressive 1,115 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on the season.
Justyn Ross has also been a stud offensively, with 61 receptions and averaging 12.9 yards per catch. Clemson’s offense will need to make the most of every opportunity if it wants to take down LSU Monday night.
Allowing only 264.1 yards per game defensively, Clemson has been nothing short of stellar this season. The Tigers are also ranked first in pass defense, which should hinder Burrow’s ability to move the ball downfield consistently.
If Clemson can find a way to shutdown Orgeron’s high-powered offense, I think it can keep this game tight. However, Burrow has proven he can thrive against whatever coverage you throw at him, so this should be a great shootout.
Betting Lines and Pick
The total for this matchup is 69.5 points. Clemson’s moneyline looks very appealing, being offered at +180.
Go ahead and take LSU to cover the 5.5-point spread here. LSU will thrive offensively in this game and do well enough on defense to comfortably cover the spread in this one.
I think both teams will put up some points, but I think LSU wins by at least one touchdown. LSU has all the momentum in the world right now, and I don’t see how you could possibly go against it here.
