Week 1 of the NFL season certainly delivered some impressive comebacks, brutal collapses, and outstanding performances. There is bound to be plenty of drama again in Week 2, and Monday Night Football’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts stands is the most highly anticipated game. These two teams will come in bolstering two of the most prolific offenses in the league so it’s definitely going to be a fun game to both watch and bet on.
Game of the Week
Philadelphia Eagles @ Indianapolis Colts
Monday, 8:35 PM ET
Current Odds: Colts -3
The Eagles found themselves in a 17-point hole at home against Jacksonville on Sunday but rallied back with 34-straight points to pull out the double-digit win. As much as they made fans sweat, Chip Kelly’s offense eventually got going, and once they did they couldn’t be stopped. The Colts’ offense also took some time to get going, but unlike Philadelphia, they played a much tougher opponent, the defending AFC champion Denver Broncos.
A 24-point deficit was too much to overcome. Indianapolis outscored the Broncos 17-7 in the second half of that game but fell short in a 31-24 loss. Now they head home with a degree of momentum as they get set to host the Eagles in a showdown of high-scoring offense. Indianapolis will be desperate coming off a loss, and the Colts have home advantage. Look for Andrew Luck and company to bounce back with a big win for his team.
Our Pick: Indianapolis Colts -3
Underdog Play of the Week
New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers
Sunday, 4:25 PM ET
Odds: Jets +8
The Vikings, Browns, Raiders, Bills, Titans, Panthers, and Colts all covered as road underdogs in Week 1, and that trend will likely continue in Week 2. The Packers certainly have a ton of talent, but they were beaten by the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in their opener. They will now face another very physical team. It took a while for the New York offense to get going in Week 1, but second-year quarterback Geno Smith had decent numbers.
The running back tandem of Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory showed flashes of how good it can be. The Jets might not win this game straight up, but they should be able to cover the 8.5 in a contest that will be closer than most people think. The Packers week 1 showing against Seattle was poor all around, and with a stout defense led by Rex Ryan and company I don’t think it gets much easier for Aaron Rodgers despite being at home.
Our Pick: New York Jets +8
Two-Team Teaser of the Week (7 points)
Seattle Seahawks @ San Diego Chargers
New England Patriots @ Minnesota Vikings
The Seahawks proved their dominance against Green Bay in Week 1 and will have had four more days to rest and prepare for their game than their opponent. Applying the seven-point teaser moves Seattle to +2 in a game they are bound to win straight up. Meanwhile, the Patriots are on the road for the second-straight week after a loss at Miami but will enjoy the cooler air against a Minnesota team coming off a win over the Rams.
The Vikings looked good, but that was against St. Louis as opposed to a New England team determined not to fall to 0-2. Applying the teaser moves the Patriots to +4 in a game they too should win straight up. It won’t be a guarantee by any means, but don’t turn your back on a QB like Tom Brady, who hasn’t lost his opening two games as a starter since his tenure started in New England more than a decade ago.
