The top ranked Duke Blue Devils will take on the 2nd ranked Michigan State Spartans in the opening game. Following that game, 4th ranked Kentucky Wildcats will take on the 5th ranked Kansas Jayhawks. Let’s take a look at the 2017 State Farm Champions Classic Picks and Predictions.
Duke vs. Michigan State
The Duke Blue Devils not only have some of the top talented in College Basketball, but a legendary head coach who now has 1,000 wins at Duke. He is the first head coach to win 1,000 at one program. Grayson Allen is back for his final season with the Blue Devils, but the big name for Duke is Marvin Bagley III. He scored nearly 25 points per game in the first two games of the season. He is also ripping down 10 rebounds per game. Gary Trent Jr is another sensational player for Duke, with 17 points per game. Duke has five guys scoring double digits per game.
On the other side – it’s not like the Michigan State Spartans are led by a slouch of a head coach. Tim Izzo continues to dominate as the leader of the Spartans. The Spartans have not won a national title since 2000, but they have been to 9 Final Fours. The Spartans are the favorites to win the Big Ten this season. Miles Bridges is back this season, after not electing to go to the National Basketball Association. He leads the team with 20 points per game. Cassius Winston is also starting out, with 8 assists per game.
This is going to be an excellent game. The talent of the Duke Blue Devils is a little higher than the Michigan State Spartans. But, Michigan State has the leadership and veteran players. In the end, the top ranked Duke Blue Devils get the job done and beat Michigan State in an epic, thrilling game. Bet Duke -1.5.
Kansas Jayhawks vs. Kentucky Wildcats
The second game will feature the Kansas Jayhawks and Kentucky Wildcats. The Kansas Jayhawks beat Tennessee State in blowout fashion in their season opener. The Jayhawks have some of their talented players from last season back, despite losing Frank Mason. Lagerald Vick and Devonte Graham combined for 33 points and 15 assists in the season opening win. Kansas is seeking their 15th trip to the NCAA Final Four and fourth National title this season.
For Kentucky, John Calipari once again has a full new roster. The Wildcats are 2-0, but started slow in wins over Utah Valley and Vermont. The Wildcats are led by the scoring of Hamidou Diallo with 17 points per game, along with Kevin Knox and PJ Washington. Kentucky has a roster of guys that are unproven – but regardless – they are still the favorite to win the SEC over Florida and Texas A+M.
These two have met the last couple season, and Kansas has gotten the best of the Wildcats Look for another good game, but both the talent and the experience goes to the Kansas Jayhawks. Look for Bill Self and his team to hit enough shots to beat the Kentucky Wildcats by 10 in this game. Bet Kansas -3 over Kentucky.
