The 2020 NFL regular season begins this week, and there is a full slate of games. Even though this season will likely look different in various ways, the action on the field is still the same.
The NFL season also brings an excellent opportunity for sports bettors, and football gambling is prevalent. Here are the betting picks and predictions for the four primetime games in Week 1.
Houston Texans +9.0 at Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans will kick things off on Thursday night, and this is a rematch of a playoff game from a season ago.
The Kansas City Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champion, and they have a great chance to repeat this season. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is arguably the best player in the league, and he will have a massive game on Thursday.
Houston was also an explosive offensive team a season ago, but they traded away wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. The Texans can still score some points, but they can’t beat the Chiefs in a shootout.
Look for Kansas City to start the season with a bang, and they run away with this game.gt_table id=”10897″
Dallas Cowboys -3.0 at Los Angeles Rams
The Dallas Cowboys will head to Los Angeles for a Week 1 showdown against the Rams. Dallas had one of the best offenses in the league a season ago, but they struggled to score at times in the red zone.
Quarterback Dak Prescott threw for more than 4,000 yards, and he should have another monster season. Running back Ezekiel Elliott is one of the best in the league, and he could also have a big day Sunday night.
Los Angeles was a disappointing team in 2019, even though they finished above the .500 mark. The Rams struggled on both sides of the ball and didn’t improve in the offseason.
The Rams are no longer an elite team, and Dallas covers the -3.0 points and wins the season opener.
Pittsburgh Steelers -5.5 at New York Giants
This game is a matchup of two teams that had some significant issues in 2019. The Giants are still in the middle of a rebuilding process, and the Steelers were devastated by injuries a season ago.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is back for the Steelers, and that should give the offense an immediate boost. Pittsburgh struggled to find a running game in 2019 as well, and they need James Conner to bounce back.
Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley are the new faces of the franchise in New York, and they will be tasked with carrying the offense. The Giants were also a terrible defense in 2019, allowing almost 30 points per game.
New York will be better in 2020, but the Steelers are the better team in this matchup. Take Pittsburgh -5.5 over the Giants in Week 1.
Tennessee Titans -1.0 at Denver Broncos
The Tennessee Titans advanced to the AFC Championship Game in 2019, and they return much of the same roster. Running back Derrick Henry led the NFL in rushing a season ago, and he will see a ton of carries in this game.
Denver is expected to be a much better offensive team in 2020 as well, but they need quarterback Drew Lock to show some improvement. The Broncos have brought in some incredibly talented wide receivers.
Both teams have a terrific defense, and that should lead to a low-scoring game in this one. Points will be hard to come by, and one big play could change the game.
The Broncos will likely be without Von Miller after the veteran suffered an injury in practice. The loss is huge and will probably make all the difference as the Titans will win this game by a touchdown.
