2017-2018 Premier League Betting Preview

The England Premier League is starting Saturday August 12th and Chelsea is the defending league champion and they are looking for their 3rd EPL title in the last four years. There has been a lot of movement in the off-season and sportsbooks have Manchester City with the best odds to win the title followed by Manchester United and Chelsea.

Brighton Makes Their Debut

Brighton makes their Premier League debut and they are at home in their first-ever EPL match and don’t have an easy premier facing Manchester City. The big guns have the best odds to win the EPL but can the other teams take a page from Leicester and take the league title from out of nowhere like they did two seasons ago?

Not likely. Chelsea stood pat for the most part in the off-season they added Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger and with the likes of Diego Costa and a loaded squad manager Antonio Conte has the club to that can repeat this EPL season.

The Manchester squads each made big splashes this season, especially Man U, who picked up Paul Pogba from Juventus and Romelu Lukaku from Everton, who lead the EPL with 29 goals last season. It has been some time since Manchester United won the EPL and they look to get back to old glory this season. However, they have some issues on the defensive side of the ball and they no longer have Wayne Rooney, who went back to his old, old squad in Everton.

Manchester City finished in 3rd place in the EPL last season, but they were still 15 points back of Chelsea. Joe Hart is gone in goal and the club shelled out to the big bucks to bring Brazilian national Ederson to man the posts and while Man City had a solid defense last season conceding 39 goals in 38 matches they will be looking for their new keeper to get them to a higher level. Sergio Agüero led the squad with 20 league goals last season and even coming in 3rd it was a little disappointing for City, who have yet to taste the big title wins since Josep Guardiola took over the club.

Excitement for Old Trafford

There is a lot of excitement and expectations at Old Trafford this season with the addition of Romelu Lukaku and Wayne Rooney now back at Everton. Man U has the EPL leading goal scorer from last season and stud MF in Paul Pogba, but can the club get over their shortcomings in the midfield?

They used to be dominant in that side of the pitch, but that is why they have not been the title squad we are used to seeing. Still, Man U is coming off a Europa League title last season and they are poised to get back in the big time and to do that they will need their newcomers to be worth all the money the squad shelled out to get them.

Tottenham Will Compete

Tottenham has the 4th betting odds. To win the EPL this season and can the Spurs do so? They have a great and balanced squad that finished runner-up last season the league, but they really did not do much to improve their club besides signing DF Kyle Walker coming over from Man City.

The Spurs have seemed on the verge to make a move in the EPL for the last few seasons, but don’t make the big moves to do so, which is why sportsbooks are not giving them much love this season. White Hart Lane is the thing of the past and the Spurs will play this season in Wembley Stadium and can they live up to that big billing? Time will tell. The Spurs face Chelsea on the road in their 2nd league match of the season and that will be a telling one to see if they are legit EPL contenders.

Rooney Is Back!

Rooney is back! It will be a little weird to see Wayne Rooney in an Everton uniform and not in a Manchester United one. He is back with his team where he cut his teeth and he may be better of as a mentor as a scorer this season.

He has lost his top form in the last couple of seasons and Everton is a long shot to win the EPL so he may be better off bringing the Toffees experience rather than being the face of the club. Gareth Barry and Rooney will lead the club, but do they have enough talent to beat the Big Boys? Time will tell.

What about Arsenal?

What about Arsenal? Alexandre Lacazette comes over from France League 1 for 60 million Euros and Mesut Ozil brings his champion pedigree from Real Madrid, but the Gunners still have holes in the starting 11. Arsène Wenger is back again as the manager, but how much longer can be do so after a lack of trophies in the last few seasons?

Big question. He has the talent and has had it for the last several seasons, but Arsenal only has the 5th best betting odds to win the EPL this season.

Liverpool Shook it Up

Liverpool brought over Mohamed Salah from AS Roma to help in the attack and Raheem Sterling for big bucks from Manchester City, but can the Reds make any noise with the lack of the attack they have? Salah has a lot of pressure on him this season at Anfield and the club’s big signings have not paid dividends in the last few seasons and the club hopes that changes brining Sterling and Salah aboard.

The EPL is wide open since the league has not even started yet. However, can any team battle the Giants, who have, by far, the best betting odds to win the EPL this season? There has been a lot of movement in the EPL in the off-season, but will that movement equal wins or will it be status quo in the league with the big money club battling it out for the league crown?
