The highly-touted Group E matchup pitting Italy versus Belgium is sure to be one that does not disappoint. Both sides seem to be firing on all cylinders with a youthful exuberance that sees each of these teams among the tournament’s favorites. Italy relies on a nice mix of youth and experience, while Belgium is largely a youth-centric team.
Both teams were clinical in warmup matches, and played opponents that are nothing to scoff at. As such, it is safe to say that both Italy and Belgium are more than ready for one another.
Match Analysis for Belgium vs Italy
When we are speaking about the attacking 3rd of the pitch, I am going to have to say that Belgium are the stronger of the two sides here. With names like Lukaku, Benteke, and Mirallas all able to be utilized, Belgium look a force to be reckoned with in front of net. Italy, on the other hand, are relying on a group of players who are largely unproven on the international stage.
In the midfield, Italy are the stronger of the two sides and have the experience to go right along with it. Names like Bonaventura, Motta, and Montolivo all bring experience to the table that you cannot find in most places on Belgium team sheet.
With that being said, Eden Hazard is able to take over matches by himself, and there is no doubting that this is exactly what he is going to try to do come Monday. Though things will be hotly contested in the middle 3rd, I personally think Italy are the stronger side.
As far as defenses are concerned, these two teams are as evenly matched as they come. Both are big, both are experienced, and both have all the tools to keep their opponents out. What it will really come down to, I think, is the fact that the Belgians are a bit pacier in the final 3rd and thus might create a handful of problems for the Italian defense throughout the course of the day.
Belgium are favored at +155, but seeing as Italy sit on the moneyline at just +210, they are being given a chance as well. I think the Belgian attack will prove to be too much for the Italian defense, and I expect them to sneak 2 goals past them. By the time the final whistle blows, I would not be at all surprised to see Belgium walk away 2-0 winners.
